Andrew "Andy" Nunez
Andrew “Andy” Nunez is the 18th Mayor of the Village of Hatch. Andy was born on a ranch 28 miles outside of Roswell, NM. After high school, Andy joined the United States Marine Corps and is a Korean War Veteran. In 1957, Andy enrolled in New Mexico State University through the GI Bill and majored in Animal Science. It was at NMSU where he met and married his wife of 52 years Carolyn. With a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Animal Science, Andy worked for the US Department of Agriculture for 8 years and for Farm Bureau where he was in charge of setting up their offices in Puerto Rico. Andy worked with various projects at NMSU including the International Program in Central and South America and Assistant to the Dean of the College of Agriculture. Andy and Carolyn moved to Hatch in 1986 with their four daughters and currently have sixteen Grandchildren and twelve Great-Grandchildren.
Andy was elected as a New Mexico Representative for District 36 in 2000 and served six consecutive terms. In 2001, he was elected to the Board of Trustees for the Village of Hatch and won re-election in 2002, 2006, & 2010. Andy was appointed Mayor in 2013. As Mayor of the Village of Hatch, Andy feels that an “open door” policy is key in building a better, close knit community.
